@ESPNStatsInfo: Hawks shot 60% from field and lost. Entering day all 13 teams that shot 58% or better in game this season had won

Wes Welker is the only player in NFL history to have five 100 reception seasons.

this is mind blowing for me ... but it just goes to show how the rule changes of the last decade have really favored the offense

Welker doesn't really benefit from this . A lot of 5-7 yd passes. More the shift to a pass happy league. I really hope Kraft and bb get theory shit together and resign him.

Wanna see the wildest fucking over of a pitcher by his team ever.

Someone throw up Nolan's 86 season with the Astros.

8-16 woulda been like 21-3 with one more run a game....should be a great article with it...

211.2 IP, 154 H, 87 BB, 270 K, 2.76 ERA (142 ERA+)

Should have won the Cy Young Award, finished 5th. In some senses, Ryan was overrated, because he walked a ridiculous number of people, especially early in his career. That was not one of those years.

Other interesting perspective...Ryan made less in salary in his entire career than A-Rod will make next year.

A player has caught 100 or more passes in a single season 76 times. 40 of those were in the last 10 years. 50 since 2000. And all but 3 since 1990.

2 players from the same team have caught 100 or more passes in the same single season three times. Care to guess who the players were in those instances?

Only 1 player has caught 100 or more passes in a single season with more than one team. Who is that player?

Welker is definitely an interesting case ... no way they can franchise him since it would be the 2nd straight year, but he might need to compromise as well since he probably can't get the franchise $$$ on the open market either ... i have seen speculation the Pats could go after Amendola (Welker-light). It should get interesting. Totally off topic, but I just read today that the Pats might be interested in Ed Reed as a free agent (Ravens likely won't re-sign him).

Nope. Hint... he had the same starting QB with both teams.

I think Cutler attempted about nine passes to everyone else on the team.

not really something to be shocked about considering he was the bears receiving corps until jeffrey started to establish himself towards the end of the season. if trestman pans out, and they draft a TE that can perform at a high level, the bears offense could be balls out. they need to make oline corrections as well, but they can't get any worse than they are now.

Stan Musial had 3,630 hits in his career. 1,815 hits on the road and 1,815 hits at home. How's that for consistent?

I'll try.

2 guys, 100 or more passes on same team, same year - Boldin and Fitz, Harrison and Wayne, Welker and Moss

100 or more passes with more than one team - Boldin

Not very confident in these answers (except Harrison and Wayne)...

i think Trestman is going to do well

no question that Jeffery looks like a solid enough NFL WR ... he might not be a #2 (or he might be), but he is at least a solid #3WR from what i have seen

i think Trestman knows enough about offense that he will dominate ... the Bears honestly have a great offense already (2 great RBs, a stud WR + Jeffery and Cutler). Enough great players that they should be better on offense during the season. I think the coaching is mostly to blame. TE is the obvious spot to improve. They will definitely draft a TE in the first 3 rounds. They might also sign or trade for a solid one as well. Their defense is already great. I don't know enough about the Bears contract situation, but as long as their defense isn't being depleted this season, they should be a potential dominant NFC team given their current roster and the fact that Trestman will impress (IMO).

Bears must address OL and TE early. They have no 3rd currently because they gave it up for Marshall. Then they need youth on D. Ideally, they go OL and TE in the first and second, LB/CB/DL/WR depth in 4-7. And try to pick up a decent OL in free agency.

Also, if their target guys arent around and no stud has somehow slipped all the way back to them, Id like to see them trade back a couple times and pick up more picks. They are really going to need youth on D and soon.

Dumb stat. He's probably playing less when they are winning. It also suggests that the rest of the team is playing well, meaning he has to do less in the wins.

no time to look this up. My guess would be Kareem, but I'm thinking maybe Oscar Robinson or Wilt?

so, it doesn't suggest that the Lakers operate better as a team compared to when Kobe is a ball hog?

It might, and it might not. It's like the football stat: team x wins more when player y has at least 15 carries. That stat couldn't be more misleading.

Other question was answered before (Brandon Marshall, Broncos and Bears.)

The three teams that had two 100-catch receivers are:

1995 Detroit Lions - Herman Moore (123) and Brett Perriman (108)
2005 Arizona Cardinals - Larry Fitzgerald (103) and Anquan Boldin (102)
2009 Indianapolis Colts - Dallas Clark (100) and Reggie Wayne (100)

Just read this on fangraphs re. the Phillies signing Yuniesky Betancourt and thought it worthy of this thread.

Quote:
a year ago, Michael Young was worth -1.4 WAR. He’s going to be a starter for the Phillies. A year ago, Ryan Howard was worth -1.0 WAR. He’s going to be a starter for the Phillies. A year ago, Delmon Young was worth -0.7 WAR. He’s supposedly going to be a starter for the Phillies. A year ago, Chone Figgins was worth -1.0 WAR. By reports, the Phillies are the last team to have expressed some interest. A year ago, Joe Mather was worth -1.5 WAR. He’ll be in Phillies camp on a minor-league deal. A year ago, Yuniesky Betancourt was worth -0.8 WAR. He’ll be in Phillies camp on a minor-league deal.

Ladies and Genterlmen, your 2013 Philadelphia Phillies!

pretty sure moore/perriman did this for the lions back in the 90s....may have been the first duo to do this?

There would be a lot fewer five to seven yard passes across the middle if linebackers and safeties were still permitted to decapitate receivers over the middle. So, yeah, I'd say the rules changes help Welker quite a bit.
